Food Assistance At the Market

Winchester Farmers Market logo

Winchester Farmers Market accepts SNAP, HIP, WIC, and Senior FMNP discounts.

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)

SNAP supplements food budgets to purchase food at supermarkets, farmers markets, and convenience stores.

Bring your SNAP/EBT card to the Market Manager’s tent to purchase SNAP tokens. Your card is swiped, and the amount purchased is deducted from your account.

Use SNAP tokens on eligible items from the market’s produce farmers. Tokens do not expire and can be used week-to-week.

How do I get benefits?

HIP (Healthy Incentives Program)

HIP rewards customers with extra benefits who use SNAP to purchase fruits, vegetables, and food-producing plants at farmers markets, farm stands, CSAs, and mobile markets.

Massachusetts residents enrolled in SNAP are automatically enrolled in HIP. When you use your
SNAP/EBT card at our farmers market to buy fruits and vegetables, you immediately receive a dollar-for-dollar rebate.

The amount you get each month depends on your household size:

  • 1 – 2 people can receive up to $40
  • 3 – 5 people can receive up to $60
  • 6 or more can receive up to $80
  •

Visit mass.gov to find out more information on the HIP Program. (Watch videos about how HIP works in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole.)

How do I get benefits?
If you have SNAP, you automatically have HIP, too!

WIC (Women, Infant and Children) and
Senior FMNP (Farmers Market Nutrition Program)

Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program offers coupons for current WIC participants over four months of age, and low-income seniors, that can be used to buy fresh vegetables and fruits at approved farmers’ markets and farmstands in Massachusetts.

WIC participants and eligible seniors can use WIC and FMNP coupons for fruits and vegetables at our farmers market. Pay with WIC coupons directly to farm vendors at our market.

If you are a SNAP customer, you can get a dollar-for-dollar match from FMNP on fruit and vegetable purchases year-round. Visit mass.gov for more information about how to apply for WIC and Senior discounts.
