Anna’s Fund

Winchester Farmers Market's Anna's Fund

Anna’s Fund is dedicated to ensuring that everyone in our Winchester and Woburn communities has access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Through Anna’s Fund, local individuals and organizations contribute to assist our many neighbors who struggle to put food on the table.

Any Winchester or Woburn resident, who is in need, will receive $15 in tokens redeemable for food purchases when they comes to the market manager’s tent during market hours & shows a photo ID with proof of residence.

Although Anna’s Fund is no longer tied to the SNAP program, we continue to process SNAP benefits and welcome everyone who shops at our farmers market.

Your support is crucial!
With each passing season, a growing number of individuals and families need help to purchase nutritious, fresh produce. Even without broadly publicizing the change in Anna’s Fund eligibility last season, between 50 and 60 customers each Saturday asked for our help.

Contributors to Anna’s Fund give Winchester and Woburn residents greater access to fresh and healthy food in a way that provides dignity.

Anna's Fund helps those in need.

What is Anna's Fund?

Anna at the Market

Established in 2019 to cherish the memory of our beloved friend, Anna LaViolette, the fund holds a special place in our hearts.  Anna, an 85-year-old volunteer, brightened every Saturday at the market manager’s tent. She embodied the very essence of our Market—warm, curious, full of life, and deeply socially aware. Anna passionately believed in our mission to provide fresh, healthy food for all.

Supported by the LaViolette family and many generous individuals, faith communities, and organizations, Anna’s Fund flourished over the years. Until mid-2023, donations were utilized to match funds for SNAP customers, boosting their market purchases. However, the demand exceeded our expectations, with over $31,700 distributed in matching funds to SNAP customers in 2022 alone. Even with generous contributions, such as the $21,000 raised from the raffle of a stunning quilt by local artist, Denise Konicek, the fund faced challenges in meeting the growing need.

To ensure sustainability, we temporarily paused distributions in mid-2023. After consultation with other markets and the Mass. Department of Transitional Assistance, we decided to disengage with the SNAP program. An Anna’s Fund supplement of $15 is now available to Winchester and Woburn shoppers who are facing food insecurity.

Anna’s legacy lives on through this fund, touching the lives of many in our community. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to making a difference.
